Monty Waldin now rents over 4 hectares of vines in the Roussillon from vigneron Eric Laguerre. He spent the first year (2007) nurturing and working 2.2 hectares of vines through to cropping and and making the wine. All this was done following the organic principals that Monty has always espoused. This is his second vintage. Mainly made from old vine Carignan, with 25% Syrah and a touch of Grenache and Maccabeu, these were all harvested together gathering in a niggardly 23 hectolitres per hectare. This was fermented in Eric's cellar, in one of his refurbished, ancient concrete vats. Hints of thyme, wild herbs and rustic black fruits. A wine of true character.
