The Phoenicians, early occupants of the high, fertile Bekaa Valley (home to 6,000 years of winemaking), were named after the Greek word for 'purple': the stain of crushed grapes. When the sun sets behind Mount Lebanon, the sky turns purple too, an image evoked by the new name Sami and Ramzi Ghosn selected for their family's estate: 'Massaya': 'twilight'. Leaving lucrative careers, they rejuvenated civil war-wracked vineyards with Cheval Blanc's Dominique Hébrard and the Bruniers of Vieux Télégraphe.

Beuatiful Bekaa 24 August 2011

Once upon a time it was only Chateau Musar from the Bekaa. It is still the best but now their are others chasing it including Massaya. I tried it first in the dining room of The Swan and shall be doing so againlater in the year.It was delightful.
