Chile's Central Valley lies just to the south of the capital, Santiago and spreads out along the banks of the river Maipo. The Central valley is, in effect, a subdivision of the Maipo Valley whose vineyards are situated on the rocky alluvial soils of the valley floor. The climate is warm rather than hot and well suited to making easily accessible and appealingly fruity reds and fresh, grapey whites.
