Garnacha Tinto, Cruz de Piedra Calatayud
Great value, old-vine Garnacha with dense, spicy cherry, damson and liquorice flavours; great with duck.
The 60 to 100-year-old untrained bushvines at 'Cruz de Piedra' ('stone crosses' marking the Pilgrims' Road to St. Juan de Compostela) are bursting with health. High in the Calatayud mountains, southeast of Rioja, they enjoy heat well into autumn, delivering grapes with super ripe flavours. Yields are low but so are overheads at the modern Virgen de Sierra co-op winery in Villaroya, making this big red a bargain.

cruz de piedra
recommended in Observier - I gave it try and bought more it was so good
Château du Grand Moulas, Côtes-du-Rhône
This warm, spicy wine, with its ripe redcurrant fruit and peppery, herby hints, excels with casseroles.
The Adnams Selection Rosado, 'Monte Arlas', Navarra
Deep, vibrant pink colour; aromas of fresh strawberries, crushed red fruit flavours and appetising dryness.
