Adnams from grain to glass, our Copper House gin is distilled from three locally-grown grains: barley, wheat and oats. Adnams Masterbrewer, Fergus Fitzgerald, makes a beer 'wash' from these grains which is fermented to around 6% abv without the addition of hops. Our head distiller, John McCarthy, then takes this beer and puts it through a 'beer stripping' column which removes all the alcohols to create a 'low wine' (around 80 - 85% abv). The 'low wines' are subsequently distilled in our hand-made copper pot still and purified further in rectification columns to create a clean, pure spirit. Only the very purest portion of the spirit is drawn off; the finest cut. The spirit is then returned to the copper pot still to be redistilled and infused with thirteen carefully chosen botanicals. John spent several months experimenting with different blends to create the signature First Rate flavour with integrated aromas of juniper berries, spice and fresh citrus.

OMG 18 June 2013

I shared the first taste with the bar manager in my local, who is a gin fanatic. I've spoiled us both. We cannot possibly go back to drinking regular 'premium' gins after this!

Excellent 14 December 2010

A truly excellent gin.

The names says it all! 21 November 2010

at last a gin one can enjoy without having to drown with a mixer

If you like Gin, you'll love this!, 9 February 2013

The title says it all really. We visited Adnams whilst on holiday, had a tasting of this and another Gin, and walked away with a purchase of the First Rate. We've since ordered several lots on-line.

omg!!! 25 December 2013

Xmas present with a difference and a truely lovely gin. Will certainly try more of it!!!

The VERY best 11 November 2011

This is the best gin I have tried, so smooth its a shame to mix it with anything, though a very dry Martini would be quite acceptable.
