Re-invention is key at Domecq. Irish founder Patrick Murphy left the place to his commercial advisor Juan Haurie in 1791, who then had to supply Napoleon's invading army. Bankruptcy ensued, staved off by Juan's aristocratic relative, Don Pedro Domecq Lembeye. His descendant Don Alvaro has started afresh in an artisanal way, buying Jerez' historic Pilar Aranda cellar. Alvaro now makes our Amontillado: medium dry, soft and full, with attractive length of nutty flavour. Delicious with soups or consommé.

2006 Les Bastions Rouge, Côtes de St-Mont
Plenty of intriguing character for an everyday red: cassis-rich black fruit aromas and a firm palate.
2008 Monty's Maccabeu, Dry White Vin de Pays des Cotes Catalanes
Fresh young fruit with full almost mealy flavours.
