Sauvignon Blanc, Weingut Polz 'Hochgrassnitzberg', Austria
Full and creamy on the palate with delicious aromas of fresh apricots and tropical fruit.
Polz's beautiful Hochgrassnitzberg vineyards lie on gently rolling limestone hills bordering Slovenia. There was gunfire from across the border in 1991, but today the scene is serene and tranquil. It's warm in this part of Austria, so the white grape varieties display ripe, exotic fruit characters such as in this superb Sauvignon Blanc. The winemakers leave a little extra grape pulp in the juice rather than fully clarifying it before fermentation which adds more weight to the finish. The results are remarkable.
