Adnams Beer with Food

Head Brewer, Fergus FitzgeraldWe’re all used to matching wine with food, and we all know how well Indian lager beers pair with a curry, but we thought it would be fun to look at the types of foods that pair with three of our beers. Fergus Fitzgerald, our Head Brewer, has spent many a happy hour experimenting with beer and food combinations and has come up with the following delicious recommendations.

Adnams Bitter
Bitter goes really well with roast meats and fish cooked in batter. This is because the clean bitterness from the hops will cut through slightly fatty notes and hence keep the palate refreshed. Interestingly, a good ‘hoppy’ beer will stimulate the appetite, and so our Bitter also makes a great apéritif.


Adnams Innovation
At 6.7% abv, this is a rich beer with lots of depth and flavour. Brewed with barley and wheat malts, using Columbus, Styrian Goldings and Boadicea hops, it’s a blonde beer that pairs well with spicy foods. Its fresh, citrus flavours are perfect alongside Indian or Mexican dishes.


Adnams Broadside
The fullness and richness of Broadside makes it a good accompaniment for stews and steak, or kidney and ale pies. All sausage dishes complement Broadside well. A mature cheese ploughmans or cheeseboard of hard English cheeses are a perfect match for bottled Broadside.
