The Adnams Selection wine range

We're immensely proud about our Adnams Selection range. It's not a huge list of wines because it takes a really special wine to make the final selection; one that has to typify its appellation, over-perform in its price bracket and has to reflect the true character of Adnams - quite a tall order. We tweak the range all the time as we discover new wines. The aim is to create a range of wines that can remain a staple of everybody's fridge or wine rack, yet at the same time offer character and flavour well above the norm.

White wines
The Adnams Selection White Burgundy, Cuvée Paul Talmard, Mâcon-Chardonnay, France
This is our all time staff favourite. The Talmard's Chardonnay is spectacular for the price. Totally unoaked, it has a purity and length that puts most other Chardonnays to shame. Winemaker Benjamin Gonzalez uses indigenous yeasts and applies a policy of minimal intervention to bring us such lovely clean flavours and pure fruit expression. This is great as an aperitif, or pair with creamy chicken and white meat dishes.
The Adnams Selection Classic Sauvignon, Domaine Beauséjour, Loire, France
Philippe Trotignon's Sauvignon is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc, with the aromatic qualities you'd associate with New Zealand, the minerality of a Sancerre, and the ripe gooseberry flavours of classic Touraine. This is delightfully pure and is a joy when you feel like something fresh and zingy.
Dessert Wine
The Adnams Selection Fine Dessert Wine, Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, La Collection Plaimont, Gascony, France (50cl)
Delicious aromas of mandarins and candied citrus peel. This has lovely, sweet, honeyed fruit flavours with a dry edge that makes it a perfect partner to strawberries, fine patisserie and all manner of puddings.
Rosé
The Adnams Selection Rosado, Monte Arlas, Navarra, Spain
This still remains a principle part of Alastair Marshall's wine-diet (which he sticks to with a religious fervour). Serve it nicely chilled to enjoy its fresh strawberry, raspberry and red fruit flavours.
Sparkling Wines
The Adnams Selection Fizz, Chardonnay Brut, France
A cheerful sparkling Chardonnay from a winery in the Loire Valley. This is fresh and citrusy in character with lively bubbles.
The Adnams Selection Rosé Fizz, France
Our Rosé Fizz is made from Cabernet Franc grapes grown in the Loire Valley. This has the aromas and flavours of crushed strawberries with appetising, dry finish. At best served chilled, this is a joyous glass of bubbly.
Red Wines
NEW - The Adnams Selection Malbec, Argentina
The Adnams Selection Tuscan Red, Italy
Made by the talented winemakers from Castello di Volpaia, this is a superb Tuscan wine - a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot.
The Adnams Selection Rioja Crianza, 'Monte Acuro', Rioja, Spain
Our Rioja comes from the eastern end of the region near the town of Aldeanueva de Ebro. Satisfyingly fruity with a lingering oaky finish, it is a blend of mainly Tempranillo with Garnacha, Mazuello and Graciano grapes aged for 14 months in American oak casks. Traditional Rioja with a modern, fruity edge.
The Adnams Selection Côtes-du-Rhône, 'Les Promesses', Rhône, France
Etienne Gonnet's Châteauneuf estate of Font de Michelle is the home of our Côte-du-Rhône. With soils resembling those of the bolder strewn Châteauneuf they grow Syrah, Grenache and Counoise grape varieties with minimum use of herbicides or pesticides and produce a full bodied red that is every inch what we think good Côtes du Rhône should be.
The Adnams Selection Claret, Les Iris de Château Chantelys, Médoc, Bordeaux, France
Christine Courian at Château Chantelys has made this wine especially for us. Like all of the Château's wines, it is made in an environmentally-friendly manner. Alastair and Rob selected the blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot with a touch of Petit Verdot) to create a soft, open and accessible style of Bordeaux.
The Adnams Selection Chilean Estate, Maipo Valley, Chile
Our Chilean Estate is a blend of Cabernet, Shiraz and Carménère which creates an interesting wine with multiple dimensions, and one that is equally delicious on its own or paired with hearty meat dishes.
The Adnams Selection French Country Wines
These two wines are made for us by the Perrin brothers of Château Beaucastel, and offer great value for money.
The Adnams Selection La Tour du Prélat Blanc, Perrin et Fils
A delicious blend of two of the Rhône's best-known white varieties, Viognier and Marsanne. Aromas of lime blossom mingle with yellow fruits and flavours of ripe pears. The acidity is lively and fresh but the mouthfeel is weighty enough to accompany pork, chicken or fish admirably.
The Adnams Selection La Tour du Prélat Rouge, Perrin et Fils
Full of lively red fruit aromas with a mouthful of spice, violets and juicy red fruit flavours, this is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise. A terrific wine for everyday drinking, yet with backbone enough to pair handsomely with chargrilled meats or pasta dishes with tomato-based sauces.
Adnams Champagne
The Adnams Selection Champagne Brut
This is great value Champagne, with fresh, lively fruit flavours, and that toasty edge associated with more expensive cuvées.
The Adnams Selection Champagne Rosé
A party wine par excellence. The colour, aromas and flavour all suggest soft red fruits, and there is also a savoury 'bite', making this a delicious and moreish proposition.

Watch Senior Wine Buyer Alastair Marshall taste The Adnams Cellar Selection here
The Adnams Cellar Selection started life where it belongs – over a dinner party. On several occasions in the recent past, conversation has turned to the desire for the perfect ‘dinner party’ wine and The Cellar Selection is our answer to this. From growers that I’ve known for many years, I have chosen a range of styles from the classic regions of France. The wines are outstanding, chosen to be ready to drink but in no danger of falling apart. They express the individuality of the people who made them as well as being expressive examples of their type.
