Long Overdue From An Unexpected Source | 26 December 2015
Since another organization purchased and homogenized HP, so it tastes like every other brown sauce they make, the UK has been crying out for a decent brown sauce. Tiptrees is good, but slightly too sweet. The time had come for a brown sauce that tastes like sauces of yesteryear! The sauce should have a broad mix, it should be sweet, tart, it should make the tongue tingle yet be able to dance and blend with the meat or cheese with which it is served. It should cut through fat and compliment not dominate. Such a sauce exists once more, but this is better than anything else out there. Discovered on a shop shelf, in an understated bottle and label, this brown nectar deserves a place in any kitchen. This great sauce does all that is asked, the blend of fruit and spice works in the way that a brown sauce should, yet never dominates with a chemical onslaught like an own label shop sauce, nor wimpily hiding behind a fake English name (after buying the maker then shutting it down and moving production to the Netherlands) and making sure it tastes virtually identical to the other English sauce brand that they bought. This is an English sauce, made in England and with a proud English name. Time to buy local and enjoy a superior product!
